Talking Textiles

Description

Textiles, traditionally valued for their warmth, comfort and sound-absorbing qualities, are examined here as sonic, multisensory materials. Talking Textiles is an e-textile project that integrates conductive materials and capacitive touch sensors to create interactive interfaces that respond to touch with sound in real time. Could textiles that „speak“ through their inherent sounds open new ways to support mental well-being? Grounded in ASMR research, the work investigates how amplifying subtle material sounds — such as the friction of fibers, or the sound of fingers moving across a textile surface — can support emotional regulation and offer a sensory approach in therapeutic contexts. The collection consists of 3 pieces designed for moments of calm, which invite exploratory touch gestures & encourage users to listen with intent
