To dress means to stage oneself. The collection stage me! by Franziska Bauer reacts to a world in which self-staging takes place in standardized grids on online platforms and in which it is clear that we actually play theater every day. Aesthetics and routines of representation – whether on the web, in everyday life, or in gender – are analyzed and exaggerated. Familiar garments, staged objects, and an “everyday” color palette are alienated and recombined.
In this way, the familiar irritates, and the unexpected seems natural. When the staging becomes larger than we ourselves, the question of authenticity and reality remains open.
