Description

‘Sôritês – The Modulation of an Indeterminacy’ deals with the raw material sand and uses a constructed apparatus to explore the nature and design possibilities of this finite resource.  The activated apparatus allows the viewer to become immersed in the visual exploration of the raw material and to engage with the resulting process. The sand acts as both a driving force and a creative element, generating new, unrepeatable visual forms with each use. The question of the appropriate amount of sand in relation to the duration of the activated apparatus is at the centre of the work, and sensitises the viewer to the appropriate use of resources and the examination of sand as a raw material.
