Description
The “simple boxes” project addresses the reduction of packaging waste in industrial small-series and special component logistics. Due to high geometric variance, resource-intensive single-use solutions still dominate in this B2B sector. The aim of the work is to develop shape-flexible, adaptive inlay systems that enable tool-free and process-reliable adaptation to changing shapes within the standardized framework of VDA small load carriers (KLT) in order to promote closed reusable cycles. Methodologically, the study combines the analysis of existing logistics standards with an experimental material and concept study. Six innovative approaches are examined and tested as prototypes: a wax-expanded clay composite, a vacuum fixation, an elastic fabric system made from old inner tubes, gel cushions, textile upcycling, and parametrically generated 3D-printed inlays. The result strengthens sustainable cycles in the industrial context.
