Description

Many small electrical appliances are stored unused in basements or similar places and are forgotten, while the volume of waste grows and product lifespans shorten. The master’s thesis “Schön war’s – und jetzt?” (It was nice – and now?) examines alternatives to non-use using the example of a raclette grill. Although the social togetherness at a raclette event with friends and family is emotionally valued, the value of the device itself is considered low. So is an emotional bond needed or should the product recede into the background? Do alternative options sustainably influence purchasing and usage behavior? The designs Reduclette and Multiclette open up this spectrum.

The Reduclette functions as a short-term product straight from the supermarket shelf: the packaging of the candle and cheese offers up to three uses and is then disposed of in the household waste. The Multiclette, on the other hand, is a durable, robust interior object for flexible, permanent use that provides warmth and cozy dining.
