Description

Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams worldwide. Millions of tons of electronic devices are disposed of every year. In this context, the new production of large household appliances in particular consumes too much energy and resources, which is why a longer service life for electronic devices is a decisive factor. Using the example of a washing machine, the work shows how circular design, a modular structure and an understandable design can extend the service life and promote a more conscious and resource-saving handling of technical everyday products. The design provides for a clear structuring and modular accessibility of the individual components in order to facilitate repair, care and replacement. The anonymous, technical interior of the machine is also brought to the outside through embossings, signal colors and labels in order to be more visible and understandable for users and to improve awareness of the machine.
