Reconnect me
Joints as Design Principle
Description
Until 100 years ago, durable products and repairs were taken for granted, but today there are serious problems. Cheap industrial production of near-seamless products makes repairs impossible. Joints are small, hidden and impossible to undo. Lower quality materials lead to faster wear and tear. Buying new is cheaper than repairing, and fast-moving trends also encourage a throwaway society. ‘Reconnect me’ focuses on the connection between different elements and materials of a product and counteracts throwaway behaviour. The connection, with its form and function, becomes the design-defining element. A pluggable and therefore detachable seam connection is developed and finds an innovative application in jewellery and vessels. Each product is deliberately clear and simple, with a maximum of three elements. It is a clear statement of circular design, individuality and reparability.
