Description

The phase-out of coal in 2038 will steadily reduce the availability of the secondary raw material FGD gypsum, which is a fundamental source of material for the gypsum processing industry. This underlines the urgent need to re-evaluate the single use of gypsum as a building material, while at the same time strengthening its circularity as recycled gypsum.

The ‘recasting aesthetics’ project explores and highlights the hidden potential of recycled gypsum. The focus is on the value and aesthetic quality of the recycled material. The project aims to raise awareness of the versatility of recycled gypsum and its creative potential. The addition of cellulose fibres makes it possible to create durable and versatile surfaces, in addition to increased stability. The object of the research project manifests the value of (recycled) gypsum and its connotation as a disposable product fades.
