Description
PRIME is an affordable, fully mechanical transradial prosthetic arm designed as an alternative to electronically actuated systems. It utilizes body- powered actuation to translate elbow flexion into controlled hand movement through a purely mechanical linkage mechanism. By eliminating electronic components, PRIME reduces cost, technical complexity, and maintenance requirements while increasing reliability and repairability. The modular architecture enables adaptability to different users and use contexts, and its components are optimized for digital fabrication and decentralized production. PRIME aims to enhance accessibility to functional upper-limb prosthetics, particularly in low-resource environments, by combining user-centered design principles with robust mechanical engineering solutions.
