Description

Our colorful planet has produced three major kingdoms of organisms: flora, fauna and funga. Funga? In fact, the world of fungi, in its diversity of forms and functions, is only partially visible to the eye, but is fundamental to the formation and interaction of natural elements. Nowadays, it even offers numerous possibilities to stop the harmful and destructive dynamics of our industrial production methods. In this context, the ‘MycoColors’ research project is dedicated to different ways of obtaining textile dyes from fungi, which can replace synthetic dyes with harmful side effects. Extractive processes are used to extract dyes from the fruiting bodies of existing fungal species, as well as the controlled growth of mycelia in bioreactors. The aim is to create an ever-expanding range of colors that can be transferred to other materials.
