Description

Mechanical Craft is an exploration into the topics handmade and craft, as well as the perception of those terms and their relation to digital tools and new technology. The six vessels are a physical outcome of the practical and theoretical research. They were mainly made by a machine. So can we perceive them as something crafted or even handmade? Are we able to bestow the same cultural value on them as we normally would on traditionally crafted goods? They are made of porcelain and built with a generative tool and shaped by a 3d printer and human hands. As vessels, they fall in line with a continuous history of ceramic objects, within which they can be related and compared to each other. The unusual surface was created using the displacement of material to create a structure that only the 3d printer can produce.
