Description
This research explores a sustainable non-woven sheet material made by combining recycled textiles and wool, including locally sourced fleece from Berlin. Responding to global textile waste and overproduction, it reuses discarded garments as a key resource. Inspired by historical practices of turning textiles into paper, the material merges the softness and translucency of fabric with wool’s functional qualities, such as flame resistance, moisture regulation, and air-purifying potential.
A large, colorful textile sheet was developed for interior applications like room dividers. Influenced by Japanese boro traditions, the design preserves the visible identity of each reused textile, forming a patchwork-like surface that reflects both material history and contemporary design language.
The project demonstrates how combining waste materials with cultural repair practices can generate sustainable, functional, and expressive alternatives for interior design.
