Description

Crab fishing has long been an integral part of the North German coast; for decades, it has been a cornerstone of the economy and food supply for many coastal towns. However, due to factors such as industrial fishing, crabs have increasingly become mere consumer products. Growing demand and ever-larger fishing vessels have led to declining stocks and a more threatened ecosystem. In addition, private and family-run small-scale fishing has lost significance.

To counteract these developments, the Eco Cutter concept was created. This nearly 20-metre-long cutter uses new technologies to make crab fishing more sustainable and future-proof. Thanks to a hybrid solution with an electric azipod drive and a modular energy system consisting of a generator powered by e-fuels and batteries, various harmful environmental impacts can be reduced.
