Description

L. Burckhardt’s approach — not only to design a product and its external shell, but also to engage with society and its environment, to examine them and include them in the design process — is, in my view, fundamental. In our society, many people feel lonely. People seek stability. A “Kinderladen” (parent-run preschool) enables families to engage in close exchange and fosters a strong sense of community. Everyone contributes their talents and skills to the KiLa and is familiar with each other on both a personal and spatial level.
The focus of my diploma thesis is on the reading and relaxation room in the KiLa. I explored the question of how the space can support both the children and the pedagogical team, and promote children’s sense of self-efficacy, taking into account all aspects that the space entails. I consciously considered the invisible overall systems as well as interpersonal relationships throughout my process. The interactions between the children, educators, and parents were observed and incorporated.
