Description

Kasa is a concept for an umbrella that combines Asian aesthetics with practicality and durability. We tend to forget the value that everyday objects have. They get replaced thoughtlessly, even when it’s not necessary. That is why Kasa attempts to create an emotional bond between the user and the product, leading to longer use and a willingness to perform repairs. One way to achieve this goal is through aesthetics of use - the product must be as simple as it is fun to use. The umbrella has been constructed so that its components are replaceable. Inspired by Japanese wood joinery, it is equipped with connecting pieces that make the spokes less vulnerable to wind and minimise the cost of materials for repair). In addition, the fan-inspired opening mechanism allows the umbrella to only be partially opened, allowing it to be used as a privacy screen.
