Climate crisis, species extinction, resource scarcity – the ecological challenges of our time often seem abstract and overwhelming. It is all the more important to make these topics intuitively tangible and to create emotional access.
The board game I developed, ‘Ka‘lema – Expedition into the Unknown’, makes it possible to experience what happens when we continue to exploit rather than preserve: the planet itself becomes an active playing figure — it reacts to the players’ behaviour and defends itself against destructive actions. The aim is to survive in harmony with the environment rather than dominate it.
The game combines narrative depth with a sophisticated game system and a unique design concept: the game board is designed as a large-format notebook that can be fully unfolded and also serves as packaging. This creates an immersive gaming experience that makes complex topics accessible — it is enjoyable, moving, and thought-provoking.
