By the end of 2023, approximately 9.3% of Germany’s population will be living with a severe disability. Yet disabilities remain heavily stigmatised, and barriers are often not only physical but also social. Inclusion therefore aims for a society where everyone is welcome and equal opportunities exist. This project, a board game, brings inclusion into the public focus in a playful and subtle way.
The focus is on visual impairments. Our perception is strongly shaped by vision. How does it change when we have to rely on other senses?
Interviews helped to understand real needs and challenges. A common wish was for a game that allows for a change of perspective: this led to the creation of the cooperative team game ‘Blackbox’.
Communication and imagination are required to uncover the secrets of the Blackbox. The game invites players to actively engage with inclusion and critically question existing barriers.
