Under the title “I cannot tell you how much my heart burns”, a documentary theater play was created about the trans* man Gerd Katter (1910-1995), which deals with his transition at the Institute for Sexual Science under Magnus Hirschfeld from 1926-29.
The collection equips the play – accessories and props. The results include: shoes, a cap, a tie, a suitcase, a belt, a pillowcase, a transvestite certificate, a script, a stage background, and admission tickets.
The search for Gerd Katter led to the archive of the Magnus Hirschfeld Society, where collected documents, photographs, and letters are deposited in an estate.
This collection forms the basis for the prints on the collection. The 7 materials in the collection are printed using the alternative photographic process Van Dyke Brown.
