In my bachelor’s project, I examined the question of the extent to which photography can be social. How do photos convey experiences, feelings, moments, and relationships, and how do they trigger new exchange? Can photos be a shared place? The goal of my work was to expand classic documentary photography and to give back their voice to those photographed, which is supposedly taken away during photography. In doing so, I designed the three steps of photography in a participatory and social way: photography at a “third place” in the sense of the sociologist Ray Oldenburg, making the process of photo selection visible through exchange in a short film and making the subjects co-creators, and the conception and organization of a participatory photo exhibition.
