The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s leading universities and is recognised worldwide for its excellence in research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Since 2023, Prof. Katja Thoring (Integrated Product Design) and Prof. Annette Diefenthaler (Design and Transdisciplinarity) have been teaching and conducting research at TUM. Their teaching programme combines design expertise with social responsibility, technological know-how, a deep understanding of futurology and sound scientific methodology. They are also establishing the Munich Design Institute (MDI) as a central hub for research by, for and on design. The institute aims to act as a catalyst for design research and to further develop design methodologies.
