Description

The use of natural, renewable materials in design is a way of bridging the gap between man and nature and incorporating nature into design processes. ‘Forming Fungi’ investigates Pure Mycelium Materials (PMM) and their properties, cultivation process and design potential. Experiments are used to approach this little-researched group of materials, demonstrating the possibilities and limitations of using pure fungal mycelium for interior design and ultimately placing the material in a design context. The central element of the creative exploration of PMM is its materiality and material aesthetics, which come to the fore in the final design. The investigation of the material’s malleability, colour and texture are the cornerstones. The result of the exploration of the material is a mobile. Six material samples show the unique structures and the stories that each mushroom harbours.
