Fire departments in Germany are facing a growing problem: membership numbers are falling, and many fire departments are having difficulties maintaining their operational readiness. Yet 93% of all fire departments in Germany are voluntary – they form the backbone of fire protection and disaster control. The aim of my work is to create new awareness for the volunteer fire department, reduce barriers to entry, and inspire people for volunteering in a contemporary, humorous way. As part of my bachelor’s thesis, more than 20 motifs were created that showcase the diverse activities of the fire department.
