Description

The project is the creative implementation of a previous theoretical work which, as an encyclopaedia of the colour white, asserts that white is precisely this, a colour which, contrary to assumptions of universal colour effects, can never be neutral, undescribed and pure. As a materialisation of selected concepts between optics, cultural theory and cognition, the fabrics explore the extent to which there is no such thing as the colour white, but rather that its multicolour nature in monochrome must be constantly redesigned depending on context, space, light, time of day and season. They work by means of competing and complementary parameters of firstly material composition and colour effect, secondly transparency, multiple layers and weft density, thirdly weave and fabric structure and fourthly surface effect and pattern repeat. In the practice-based research of white polychromy in fabric, more complex interactions with colour become possible, which can act as a contribution to new discourses of interdisciplinary design.
