Description

The “14 tonnen” project is a material study that deals experimentally with the raw material straw. Using high pressure and heat, the agricultural waste product straw is transformed into a solid material in combination with lignin and starch.
The work sheds light on the properties and production of the material and demonstrates its capabilities in a stool design. A special feature is the achievement of two different densities in one pressing, visualised by the red coloured feet. These achieve the density of spruce wood.
The bachelor’s project stems from a fascination with alternative building materials and process technologies in architecture and is also intended to demonstrate alternatives in design.
