Description
The usability of packaged food items often leaves much to be desired—small, hard-to-grip tabs or stuck lids make handling difficult, especially for people with a disability and physical limitations.
In my master's thesis I explored different concepts of Accessible Design and designed food packaging which is easier and safer to open:
‘i-si’ is a flat packaging tray for refrigerated food in the supermarket. Thanks to the protruding foot of the tray and the extended pull tab of the lidding film the package can be opened effortlessly, even with lacking finger strength or with just one hand. The foot of the tray has a braille labeling to make it easier for visually impaired people to use as well. The ‘i-si’ packaging tray is made of thermoformable paper with barrier coating and can be disposed via wastepaper recycling.
