Description

The former brewhouse tower is a modernist landmark that, despite its significant impact on the cityscape of St. Ingbert, remains largely vacant and inaccessible. The design ‘The Vertical City Core’ illustrates the potential of repurposing existing structures and how forward-looking concepts can sustainably enhance an entire city. Just a short distance from the pedestrian zone, a new, largely barrier-free old town core is emerging, revitalising the Beckerturm and its surroundings with gastronomy, exhibition spaces on the subject of beer, co-working spaces, commercial areas, pop-up stores, and green recreational spaces. A well-thought-out, adaptive core offering aims to ensure long-term use and promote tourism. A new external escape staircase also enables the full utilisation of the building. The design draws on period elements and machinery to connect history and modernity. The increased use of timber provides a positive contrast to the concrete architecture.
