The intelligent assistance system CoBot is designed to support surgeons during robot-assisted surgery in the operating room and thus further improve the precision and quality of these procedures. Focusing on rectal resection, a complex surgery frequently performed for colorectal cancer, an AI-based system was developed that recognizes phase-specific structures and visualizes relevant information as needed in real time during the surgery. The touch user interface, as the communication medium between the AI and the surgeon, enables the display of organic structures and preparation layers as well as direct and safe operation by using unambiguous interaction areas for adjusting the system. In addition to usability, aspects of acceptance and trust in self-acting systems were considered in the development of the interface in order to achieve the best possible support for surgeons during their precise work in the OR.
