Clima hortus
Modulare Tonkühler für die fachgerechten Lagerung von Obst und Gemüse / Modular clay coolers for the proper storage of fruit and vegetables
Description
Roughly one third of all food is thrown away, partly due to a lack of knowledge about proper storage — especially fruits and vegetables quickly lose their shelf life and nutritional value.
Clima Hortus addresses exactly this issue, offering a practical, user-friendly approach to properly storing fruits and vegetables at home. Based on Marina Klein’s “Storage ABC”, six containers with different climate zones were developed, taking into account temperature, humidity, light, and ethylene.
The containers use the traditional cooling method of evaporative cooling with clay and its properties in either bisque-fired or glazed form. This allows the containers themselves to create different climate zones inside. The modular structure and various sizes enable flexible integration into different contexts, and the colour-coding system allows for easy assignment of fruit and vegetables to the corresponding container, making proper storage possible without prior knowledge.
