Description
The goal of my project is finding out which potentials the biopolymer chitosan has to be a promising material with a major significance for the design world. To find an answer to this research question, my project is divided in different parts: a theoretical part, a material experiment part and a speculative part.
The theoretical research is devoted to the biological composition, the sources and the extraction processes of the material. Additionally different processing methods and some application areas are documented. The material life cycles’ sustainability is tested.
The following material experiments show the aesthetic qualities of the material, which has been tested in different concentrations, colors, blends and combinations. Concrete hints for chances and limitations of its use for product design contexts are given.
