Build it up! Break it down?
Failure!
Description
The bachelor thesis "Build it up! Break it down?" presents perspectives on how to encourage people to embrace failure. Both building up and failing are familiar phenomena that are perceived differently by society and individuals. Building relationships, for example, is considered desirable, whereas failure has a negative connotation as a taboo topic. Designers can influence this value-oriented perception through their designs. Classic industrial design, by definition, symbolises the human desire to build something in an almost perfect way. It is necessary for (industrial) designers to be aware of this responsibility and to question the evaluation system of building up and failing. This work provides ideas that aim to encourage people to consciously engage with failure and to perceive it as a positive opportunity.
