A Terrestrial Fabulation
Description
‘AMONG CRITTERS’ is a terrestrial fabulation about the importance of interspecies care and the fact of the infinite complexity of all beings. Inspired by the symbiotic processes in ‘SCOBY’, the work invites bacteria, yeast and humans to a ritual of kombucha fermentation. The needs of the micro-organisms provide an opportunity to thrive together in a cyclical balance. ‘AMONG CRITTERS’ is a series of nine clay vessels whose form and function correspond to their respective roles in the ritual. Their handling is determined by their individual shapes and is learned intuitively. ‘AMONG CRITTERS’ aims to create and find new relationships. As well as to reflect on our role as a human species in post-anthropocene futures and to create interspecies empathy.
