Description

The bachelor thesis deals with the problem of increasing heat in cities, which represents an increasing health risk for people. “Akazia” is a user-oriented tool; it gives people a way out of the heat stress in inner-city areas through plants, shade and seating. Akazia is a tree-like structure that adapts to different urban structures and allows elements of nature to be integrated into the limited space in the city. By growing the plants in differently arranged modules, the construct provides shade and physical cooling through evaporation, allowing direct contact with nature. The basics for the design were drawn from evolutionary psychology in order to reinforce the impression of a place of retreat and to work directly against heat stress through positive emotional stimuli.
