Description
Air Craft is a research project that explores how manufacturing processes can be designed more openly and efficiently through digital fabrication and parametric design.
It covers a comprehensive design and production process that questions authorship in design and allows all stakeholders to intervene from design to final product to create a personalized artifact.
Exemplary of the process, a safety vest based on the technology of pressure-stabilized membrane structures was developed. These impact-resistant structures are ideal for protectors while being very lightweight and mobile.
Using self-determined body measurements, the personal assistive product can be designed. A CNC-controlled ultrasonic welder then seals the seams of the product. This enables individual adaptation to the user as well as on-demand production with minimal energy consumption.
