Description

When designing products, gendered assumptions, norms and values are co-created. Following this approach, in my master's thesis I addressed the question of how these characteristics can be recognized in everyday products and to what extent tea drinking can be used as a feminist practice to overcome patriarchal structures in product design. I understand the teapot as an artifact that is inextricably linked to femininity, domesticity and tea drinking as a social practice. In an explorative design process, 15 different teapots were created from the individual components, which question the aesthetics and use of a customary teapot. They have several spouts, offset handles, can only be used together or better alone. In their use, they are meant to invite discussion about gendered features of forms, materials and behavior. This work can be understood as an object-like collection to look at everyday products, their use and design in a critical feminist way.
