Sei doch mal ein echter Mann!

Description

As part of my bachelor’s thesis at the Bauhaus Campus Dessau, I developed the exhibition ‘Be a real man for once!’, which examines socially constructed images of masculinity. The foundation consisted of interviews, an online survey, and discussions with experts. The results were translated into a walk-in installation featuring papercuts, metal objects, audio recordings, and texts. Visitors encountered constructed gender roles and authentic voices sharing feelings, fatherhood, and self-perceptions.

The exhibition serves as an invitation to dialogue — without blame, but with a desire for change.
It shows how rigid norms of masculinity restrict not only FLINTA individuals but also men themselves — emotionally, socially, and in terms of health. Design here becomes a tool for gender-sensitive education and for strengthening democratic values through participation, reflection, and listening.
