Description
RapidProsthetics investigates how digital tools and additive manufacturing can improve the highly manual production process of arm prostheses. In cooperation with the Münster University Hospital (UKM) and the orthopedic technicians from UKM ProTec, a practical workflow was developed together with patients and clinical experts.
A central problem is the week-long waiting time. RapidProsthetics shortens the path from the impression to the wearable prosthesis to under 48 hours. The clinical expertise of the specialists is preserved: The residual limb is molded classically to take tissue behavior and targeted compression into account. The impression is then digitized and a matching inner and outer socket is modeled.
The sockets are manufactured using the additive manufacturing processes FFF and SLS. This results in a robust, hygienic and individually adapted prosthesis that relieves the burden on specialists, saves material and simplifies later adjustments.
