Nerea Skin
Development of Bio-Packaging for cosmetic products
Description
This thesis presents Nerea Skin, a biodegradable packaging for liquid and semi-solid cosmetics. It was developed to reduce plastic waste in the beauty industry by using regenerative materials like seaweed. These materials are flexible and compostable, while also offering protection and antibacterial benefits for the product.
The packaging comes in single-use capsules that combine function with beauty. Their natural textures, soft matte finish, and organic shapes create a tactile and emotional experience. Inspired by minimalist and nature-based design, helping users feel more connected to the product and its purpose.
The project followed the Double Diamond method, combining research, material testing, and prototyping. After many experiments, the final formula blends alginate, chitosan, and a softener to improve performance. The result is a functional and sustainable packaging that supports a more responsible future for beauty products.
