Description

Biodesign strategies initiate a rethink in society and counteract the increasing consumption of short-lived products. This project is based on fungi, the hyphae of which (fine, root-like filaments) penetrate and network organic substances for food intake. The totality of the hyphae forms the mycelium: a network which serves as the basis for the creative debate in this project. By combining the mycelium with organic materials, such as beech shavings or rapeseed straw, a stable material is created after a certain growth period that is comparable to the material MDF. A fabric container sewn as a tube defines the growth in the form of a hypha. All materials used in the project make complex recycling processes redundant and can be composted in an environmentally friendly manner.
