Description
The work explores the fundamental substance of drawing and weaving, probing their emergent properties. The drawing responds to the weaving, the weaving to the drawing.
With an open-ended goal, a demand for continuous observation and situational responses to what emerged, unforeseen approaches developed along the way. A deep awareness of weaving and technical solutions for development of textile products that can be used in many ways. The deliberate use of contrasting material properties from soft to hard, combined with ingenious fabric constructions, lead to a variety of textile properties ranging from robust plastic bodies to gauzy, supple multi-layer fabrics.
The boundaries of each medium were used as tipping points in the work by looking at drawing from the perspective of weaving and vice versa. The result is a dialogue as well as ongoing research between techniques and materials that push each other forward as a cohesive system.
