Description
“Don’t Blink” is an immersive, social-playful media installation that examines the mechanisms behind social media and their impact on perception, societal discourse, and democratic processes. In the interior, visitors “steer” a chaotic flood of real social media clips on six screens through their blinking. This physical interaction exaggerates our reality of consuming up to hundreds of contexts within the shortest space of time. On the flip side, visitors themselves take on the role of the actors behind the powerful platforms: via interactive interfaces, the “algorithm” in front of the screens is influenced in one’s own interest. The installation has great potential for promoting the media literacy of a cross-age target group by providing education about the opinion power of platforms that bind our attention to short-form content. Don’t Blink, or you might miss it.
