BROKEN=GOOD
Vermeidung keramischer Abfälle im Fall der Industrieproduktion von Porzellan
Description
In the production of utilitarian porcelain, ceramic waste is generated as broken goods, which are often insufficiently reused. Frequently, excessively high standards result in up to 20% broken goods, sorted out solely for aesthetic reasons. This project explores design interventions in the manufacturing process, sorting, and disposal to conserve resources.
The outcome is a small-batch porcelain tea set that challenges aesthetic requirements while valuing both energy input and material. It aims to raise awareness of characteristics that can emerge through material and production processes but are otherwise labelled as defects. Instead of denying these features, they are presented in a café usage scenario. The boundaries between quality grades blur. The design does not claim to offer a universal solution but rather seeks to contribute to a broader rethinking.
