About Prof. Dr. Zane Berzina
Prof. Dr. Zane Berzina is a Latvian-born designer, researcher, and educator working at the intersection of design, art, science, and culture. Her practice and teaching explore soft technologies, material ecologies, and sustainable textile systems, focusing on the relationships between nature, technology, and material processes. Since 2008, she has been Professor of Conceptual Design of Materials and Surfaces in the Textile and Material Design Department at Weißensee School of Art Berlin, where she co-founded eLab and greenlab. Berzina has led numerous BMBF-funded research projects on intelligent materials, co-founded DXM – Design and Experimental Material Research, and serves on the Advisory Board of the German Federal Ecodesign Award.
