German Design Graduates @ KGM Dresden
With a view to the future, young product design graduates think in a networked way and provide concrete solutions for the challenges of our time and design future living environments. If design wants to remain socially relevant, designers have to take responsibility more than ever – ecologically – culturally – socially – politically – humanely.
Thomas A. Geisler and Katrin Krupka will moderate the round, where exciting graduates from East and West will present and discuss their topics and attitudes, relate them to positions from the exhibition Deutsches Design 1949 – 89, and talk about their experiences and attitudes towards design education today.

Workshop Scholarships
Design Campus
As part of the German Design Graduates Initiative, the newly founded Design Campus awards six workshop scholarships for the annual summer school, which takes place between mid-July and the end of August.
The Design Campus is the research and development platform of the Kunstgewerbemuseum der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden in Pillnitz Palace and Park. It is a curator-driven, interdisciplinary and future-oriented think tank to rethink the world’s biggest questions through design practices and cultures. Each year, Design Campus offers a six-week “School of Utopia” series of week-long, concurrent workshops led by renowned creative professionals. The summer school is open to anyone with an inquisitive mind and a burning desire to change the world through design.
Graduates will be selected for the next Design Campus 2022 via a public vote in spring 2022. The nominations will be announced shortly.
Three-month design residency
MAGAZIN
Product Development Office
As part of the GDG, MAGAZIN offers a selected designer* the opportunity for a 3-month residency in the Berlin product development office at B-Part. Stephan Dornhofer (Managing Director Magazine) and the product development team will select and announce a graduate for the residency.
MAGAZIN offers an intensive insight into the market maturity of an M-product, from selection through the various steps of development to market launch. Through this participation in the team, we impart knowledge of materials and their possible applications, insight into the procedural phases of product development from idea sketch to prototype, as well as knowledge of implementation to market maturity.
Scholarships + Networking Evening
Cradle to Cradle NGO
The Cradle to Cradle NGO supports one graduate each with a scholarship to attend our International Cradle to Cradle Congress and the Cradle to Cradle Academy. In addition, we would like to organize a networking evening with a small group of graduates.
Attendance at the Congress is normally subject to a fee – here, graduates have the opportunity to network beyond the program with stakeholders from a wide range of industry and political sectors and to gain a wide range of insights into the C2C world. Participation in the academy is normally reserved for our volunteers. Here, the graduate can exchange ideas with C2C experts from a wide variety of fields and, of course, participate in the interactive program items. At a networking evening in our C2C LAB in Berlin, graduates can network with each other, learn more about Cradle to Cradle in design, and experience how C2C can be implemented in practice using the C2C LAB.

seekicks
seekicks is the entrepreneurship program of weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. It primarily promotes entrepreneurial thinking, which nowadays combines or must combine not only economic, but also social and ethical aspects.
With a focus on creative and reflective practice, it shows ways to start your own business and trains a holistic view of product and processes. The program runs on a 6-month rotation. Prerequisites for all participants are: Motivation for their own further development, cooperative action with others and the willingness to understand their own business idea as part of a more complex system. Since 2020, the program has been funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of “EXIST – Potentiale Heben”.
Within the framework of the GDG, we offer the suitable candidate(s) the opportunity to participate in our exciting program for 6 months. There is also the possibility to explore further funding opportunities through seekicks (e.g. DesignFarmBerlin) and apply with the support of the seekicks team.

Sebastian Herkner
For one graduate from the GDG Archive in 2021 (they do not have to be exhibitors), Sebastian Herkner offers specific project coaching to help with concept development. This can be an input into the topics of material technology production as well as project implementation and marketing.

For selected graduates, Sandra Groll offers coaching sessions on the preparation of design-related research and doctoral projects and advises on general questions concerning the topic “Doing research as a designer?
Work & Mentoring
RSW offers a selected graduate the combination of a 6-month internship and intensive project or start-up coaching. The designer can work 3 days a week on exciting RSW projects and gain deeper insights into the daily work of a design office. The other two days, the graduate can use the resources (workplace, PC, workshop…) but also the experience and expertise of RSW to work on their own projects or start-up.
Mentoring
Norbert Haller – ID berlin
As a successful Berlin-based designer, Norbert Haller offers coaching for two graduates who want to work as independent designers in the future. Norbert Haller shares his knowledge about what is important when starting your own business – beyond the stereotypical advice on marketing strategies and business plans.
Rather, the aim is to provide a glimpse behind the scenes of successful designers and to motivate young graduates to take the important step.
Mentoring
Anette Ströh
Anette Ströh offers mentoring to selected graduates in the field of “design for the health sector”.
Therefore, it can be about the further development of the final project as well as the professional development of the graduates.
The mentoring is intended to provide orientation in the rapidly changing healthcare market and to address the specific requirements for products and services for the healthcare sector.
PR – Coaching
Jasmin Jouhar
For many years, young design has been one of Jasmin Jouhar’s favorite topics. She knows exactly how important it is for graduates to be able to present their work to a wider audience.
Jasmin Jouhar supports with an individual PR coaching: How does press work work? Which topics fit which media? And what are journalists interested in? These are important questions for young graduates, Jasmin Jouhar advises on topics of media visibility.

Internationales Design Zentrum Berlin
The International Design Center Berlin (IDZ) awards free annual memberships to three German Design Graduates. They will have the opportunity to present their work to other members and interested guests at an IDZ virtual Meetup in September 2021. The Meetup offers the opportunity to get to know and exchange with leading agencies and companies from the membership and the extended network of the IDZ – later collaborations are not excluded!
